The V-Ring is fixed on the shaft, they seal axially against a perpendicular counterface, whether it is the housing itself or a bearing outer surface. They can be utilized as either a primary or backup seal and do an excellent job as a slinger of foreign materials, especially at higher speeds.
There are two primary styles of Dichtomatik axial face seals. The V-ring, which is an all rubber product, can be stretched over fittings, flanges or other obstacles and mounted directly on the shaft so that disassembly is not required. Available in both nitrile and Viton® materials, it can accommodate a great deal of both shaft eccentricity and misalignment. Because of centrifugal forces, the friction of the seal against the axial face decreases with increases of shaft speed. Two styles, the VA and VS, are standard. Because of their elasticity, each size in both series can be used for a variety of shaft sizes.
